New Zealand 5kW Off-Grid Solar Carport Project: Making One Parking Space Work Harder
Release time: 2026-08-20

For this New Zealand customer, the problem was not a lack of space—it was how to make better use of the space they already had.
The customer had a single parking area beside the house but limited suitable roof space for a conventional solar installation. They also wanted a more reliable power solution without depending completely on the grid. Building a separate solar structure would take up additional space, so a solar carport made more sense.
After discussing the site and the customer’s energy needs, Amosolar designed a 5kW off-grid solar carport system around the existing parking space. The solar panels were installed on the carport structure, turning the unused space above the vehicle into a small power station while keeping the parking area fully usable.
The customer also wanted the structure to be practical for everyday use. The raised design provides enough clearance for the vehicle, while the aluminum frame gives the carport a clean and solid finish that fits naturally beside the house.
From Parking Space to Solar Power
For the customer, the biggest benefit was simple: one installation now does two jobs.
The carport provides a sheltered parking area while the solar panels generate electricity for the property. With the 5kW off-grid solar system, the customer can use solar power independently and reduce reliance on grid electricity.
It was not about building the biggest solar system. It was about finding the right solar solution for a small space.
This project is a good example of why a residential solar carport can be a practical choice when rooftop space is limited. Amosolar can customize solar carport systems, off-grid solar systems and residential solar solutions according to the available space, local conditions and energy requirements.
